Sync and scrobble

Understand watch status, progress and scrobbling, and why only one service can own your progress at a time.

Three separate ideas#

  1. Watch status: the watched and unwatched marks.
  2. Progress: where you stopped in a film or episode, used for Continue watching and Watch Next.
  3. Scrobble: recording what you watched in a different app.

Watch status#

With Sync watch status on, marking a title watched or unwatched in Hegemon also updates your tracker. Turn it on per service in Trakt, Simkl or WeTrakr. With it off, your marks stay in Hegemon.

Who owns your progress#

Trakt, Simkl and WeTrakr each have a progress switch. Only one of them can be on at a time:

  • Turn one on and Hegemon turns the others off for you.
  • If Simkl progress is already on when you connect Trakt, Trakt's progress stays off.
  • With all three off, Hegemon uses the progress stored on the device.
Owner What it means
Trakt, Simkl or WeTrakr Resume points live in the cloud and follow you between devices
This device (all off) Only this device's viewing counts

You can change it any time in the service's settings.

Global Scrobble#

Global Scrobble records what you watch in other streaming apps and sends it to your tracker, so your history stays complete. Each tracker has its own switch.

  1. Turn on Global Scrobble in your tracker's settings.
  2. Allow notification access for Hegemon in Settings → App Settings → System Integration → Grant notification access.
  3. Start something in another app. A small note such as Monitoring: title appears, and Scrobbled: title confirms the result.

How it detects what you play

It reads the media playback information that Android exposes (title and progress). It does not record the screen or the audio.
