Profiles and KidsBeta
Give each person their own accounts, history and settings, and make a Kids profile that shows only what an adult chose.
Beta
This feature is in beta and may change.
A profile is a separate copy of Hegemon for one person. Each profile has its own accounts (Trakt, Simkl, WeTrakr), watch history, lists, rows, settings and media servers, so one person's progress and picks never mix with another's. A Kids profile is a special profile that shows only what an adult chose.
The first profile is called Main; it is the one you already have, with everything in it. Nothing is moved or lost when you add more.
Open the profiles#
Open the gear at the top right. The profile pill at the top of the Settings panel shows the active profile, with its avatar and name. Press OK on it to open Profiles.
The window lists every profile, with Current next to the one you are in and Kids next to Kids profiles.
| Action | How |
|---|---|
| Switch | Select another profile. Hegemon restarts and opens in that profile |
| Edit the current profile | Select the profile you are already in. You can change Profile name and Avatar (a grid of pictures) |
| Add profile | The Add profile button |
| Delete | The trash icon next to a profile, then confirm Delete this profile and all its data? |
Caches such as pictures are shared; everything else is per profile. Your subscription belongs to your Google account, not to a profile, so it works in every profile.
Add a profile#
- Choose Add profile.
- Choose the type: Standard or Kids.
- Type a Profile name, then pick an Avatar.
- For Kids, create a PIN: Create a PIN to leave Kids, then Repeat the PIN. If the two do not match it says The PINs do not match.
The PIN pad works with the remote: numbers, delete and confirm. Hegemon does not use the on-screen keyboard, so a child cannot leave the app through it.
The Kids profile#
Kids shows only what an adult put there.
- Home only. There is no Search, Discover, Citadel, Echo or Armory (Apps) tab.
- Your rows. Home shows the rows you made for Kids. With none yet, it says No rows yet. Create them in Profiles, under Kids content.
- Play, nothing else. OK on a card plays it. There is no details page, so there are no links to similar titles or trailers. A title's options menu has only Play.
- Allowed apps only. An app opens only if an adult allowed it. The internal player is always allowed.
- A short settings panel. The Settings panel shows only the clock, the weather and Profiles. There are no App Settings, System Settings, TV inputs or notifications.
- No dock on a long Back. Holding Back does nothing.
- A PIN to leave. Switching to another profile asks Enter the PIN to leave Kids. A wrong PIN says Wrong PIN. After several wrong tries it says Too many attempts. Try again in a minute. A Kids profile cannot add or delete profiles.
Forgot the PIN?
After three wrong tries, Forgot PIN? appears. It erases all profiles and all data of the app and starts again, after you type the code shown on screen. There is no other way to recover a PIN.
Choose what Kids can see#
This is done from an adult profile, and only when a Kids profile exists.
- Rows and apps: in Profiles, choose Kids content. Rows lets you Add row, Rename row, Move up, Move down and Delete row. Allowed apps is a list of the apps on the device, with a check mark on each app Kids may open. Hegemon itself is not in the list.
- Titles: press and hold OK on any title and choose Just for Kids. A window lists the Kids rows, and each one is a switch: on means the title is in that row. New Kids profiles start with the rows Cartoons, Movies and Documentaries to choose from.
