LayoutsBeta

Choose how Home, Discover and Citadel are arranged, use the Cinema and Showcase layouts, and make your own in Layout Factory.

Beta

This feature is in beta and may change.

A layout decides how a screen is arranged: where the big Spotlight card sits, whether rows are stacked or shown as tabs, how large the cards are. It is separate from the skin, so any layout works with any skin.

Choose layouts in Settings → App Settings → Appearance. There is one choice for each of three screens:

Row The screen
Home layout The home screen
Discover layout Discover
Citadel layout Citadel

Each opens a list with Default, the layouts that come with the app and the ones you saved. Select one with OK. The first-run setup can pick one layout for all three screens.

The layouts that come with the app#

Layout Home Discover Citadel
Default Spotlight on top, rows below The usual Discover Rows with a card that turns over into an info card
Cinema The Spotlight picture fills the screen. Its information (logo, one line of details, a short description) and the Play and Details buttons sit at the bottom left. One row of smaller cards, with the row title above it The focused film's picture fills the screen, information on the left, one row of posters at the bottom The focused title's picture fills the screen, information on the left, rows at the bottom
Showcase Spotlight in a tall panel on the right, picture framed on the subject, rows on the rest of the screen A side panel with the picture, posters on the rest A side panel with the picture and information, rows on the rest

Showcase frames the picture on faces, or on the part with the most detail, so people are not cut off by the narrow panel.

Layout Factory#

Layout Factory (Appearance, under the layout rows) is the editor for your own layouts.

  1. A window asks Start from, for the screen you are editing: Default, a layout that comes with the app (you start a new one from it) or one of your saved layouts (Edit: name, edited in place). A saved layout can be deleted from this window; Hegemon asks first.
  2. The editor lists the settings of the screen you are editing. A Screen setting switches between Home, Discover and Citadel; each screen has its own layout.
  3. OK changes a value and Up and Down move between settings. Each setting has a Reset button that returns it to its starting value.
  4. The layout's name is at the top; select it to rename the layout. Save stores it. Close asks Save changes? with Save, Discard and Keep editing.

Home settings#

Setting Values
Rows Stacked (rows one under the other) or Tabs (the row titles become tabs and one row shows at a time; the content changes when a tab gets focus)

One row on screen Only the focused row is visible, the others stay out of sight. Only with a Spotlight in the Background
Spotlight Top (as before, the Spotlight expands into details), Background (the picture fills the screen) or Side panel

Row spacing 0 to 48 in steps of 8
Card spacing 0 to 32 in steps of 8

With the Spotlight in the Background:

Setting Values

Darkening strength 0 to 100 percent, in steps of 10
Darkening starts at 0 to 80 percent of the screen height
Previous / next, Play, Details Which Spotlight buttons to show
Buttons position Bottom left, Bottom center or Bottom right

With the Spotlight as a Side panel:

Setting Values
Panel width 25 to 50 percent of the screen
Panel side Right or Left

Spotlight details open as an overlay in both Background and Side panel; the Spotlight does not expand into details as it does at the Top.

Discover settings#

Setting Values
Presentation Normal, Hybrid, Info card (the Default is the large focused card)
Hero None, Background or Side panel: the picture of the focused film. Shown only with the Normal or the default presentation

The picture settings above (darkening, panel width and side) apply here too.

Citadel settings#

Setting Values
Appearance Simple (the default: rows over the full screen, the focused card turns into an info card), Cinema or Side panel

Simple draws the least, so it suits weak devices.
